GURDASPUR: BSF troopers have shot dead a woman intruder on the India-Pakistan border in Punjab's Gurdaspur Sector, a senior BSF officer said on Wednesday.

The woman, in the age group of 25-30, was shot dead around 11.10 p.m. on Tuesday near Border Out Post (BoP) Ghaniake and her body was found during a search on Wednesday, Border Security Force (BSF) Deputy Inspector General R.S. Kataria said.

"BSF troops observed suspicious movement of the intruder who crossed into the Indian territory. The troops asked the intruder to stop, but she kept moving towards the border security fence. The troops opened fire and the woman succumbed to bullet injuries," Kataria said.

He said the BSF contacted Pakistan Rangers to hand over the body, but they refused to accept it.

"The body was then handed over to Dera Baba Nanak police for burial," the DIG added.

Security along the 553-km Indian border with Pakistan in Punjab is always high.
