CHENNAI: Raya Sarkar, who was banned from Facebook on Thursday after she posted a list outing prominent Indian academics as sexual harassers on the social media website, has been restored access to her account.

Sarkar said that the Facebook staff in Palo Alto were contacted directly after which they lifted the ban. Earlier, speaking to the New Indian Express, she had said the ban came after many people mass-reported her.

The Facebook post by Sarkar, a master's student of law at the University of California, Davis, and a Google document posted on social media named 75 senior professors from at least 21 universities as academics who used their position to allegedly sexually harass scholars.

The list has sparked off a debate and has divided the country's liberal intellectuals with one group lauding her initiative and other asking for it to be pulled down as it lacks answerability.
