SHIMLA: Seven prominent BJP leaders including a sitting MLA who are contesting against the official party candidates in the state polls were expelled from the primary membership of the party for six years with immediate effect.

"The expelled leaders include the sitting MLA from Chamba B K Chauhan, former MLAs from Palampur and Renukaji, Parveen Sharma and Hridaya Ram, D K Soni from Chamba, Lalit Thakur from Bharmaur (ST), Baldev Thakur from Fatehpur and Hansraj from Jaswan-Pragpur," state BJP chief Satpal Singh Satti said.

The BJP had denied tickets to four sitting MLAs but was able to pacify Rikhi Ram Kaundal (Jhandutta), Anil Dhiman (Bhoranj) and Gobind Sharma (Arki). However, Chauhan remained adamant and entered the fray from Chamba.
