NEW DELHI: Continuing his attack on the Modi government over demonetisation and Rafale deal, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said note ban was not a mistake but a scam and the Prime Minister must answer to the people why this decision was taken which wrecked the economy. Terming demonetisation as the country’s “biggest scam”, Rahul alleged that money was taken from common people and given to “crony capitalists”.

“This can’t be called a jumla (rhetoric), but it’s a scam. Modi was right in saying that in 70 years, his government did what no other government could do. Why did Modi snatch money from the poor and give it to his select group of 15 businessmen?” he asked. Addressing a Press conference a day after the RBI report on demonetisation came out, the Congress president alleged that note ban was not a mistake and was deliberately forced upon the people with the intention to “destroy the poor” and “help the crony capitalists change their black money to white”.

“Note ban is nothing less than a huge scam and evidence is slowly coming out...  You apologise when you make a mistake. Demonetisation was not a mistake but done deliberately by the Prime Minister as a well-thought-out attack on you (the people)  with the intention of helping his 15-20 crony capitalist friends.
“His aim was to help big crony capitalists who have marketed him, by handing over the money snatched from the pockets of common people,” Rahul said.

Asked if the PM should apologise for the decision, he said the explain his decision to “inflict the deep wound”  when issues like unemployment and low GDP rate demanded attention. On the Rafale deal, Rahul reiterated the demand for a probe by a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). “On Rafale, I gave an option to Narendra Modiji through Arun Jaitleyji to have a JPC. He is writing long blogs these days. Did he ask Modiji about JPC? We don’t know.” Rahul said the country wanted to know “what is the deal between the Prime Minister and businessman Anil Ambani”?

Citing a joint statement made by PM Narendra Modi and French President Francois Hollande in 2015, the Congress leader accused Modi of lying. He said the joint statement made it clear that the aircraft and associated systems and weapons would be delivered on the “same configuration” as had been tested and approved by the Indian Air Force. “...It is written in the Prime Minister’s joint statement that the aircraft will have the same configuration... So, the man is lying,” Rahul said.

Yes Demonetation is planned against people. Common man, honest citizen cannot have more than few number of these notes. Only people who are corrupt, black money holders, high profile politicians, business people, ..will have bundle of these. Slow down of economic activities, real estate - land cost coming down itself - was a proof that black money was a major factor. Just because a policy was not popular - common man's few days difficulties Congress is trying to use a propaganda material. Everything is politics and all the opposition parties want is failure of ruling party's policies. About people , country noone cares.
