SRINAGAR: Train service was suspended for security reasons on Saturday in the Kashmir valley, where separatists have called for a general strike against the shifting of Dukhtar-e-Milat (DeM) chief Asiya Andrabi and her two associates by National Security Agency (NSA) to New Delhi, where a court sent her to 10 days remand in connection with anti-national activities on Friday.
Train service will remain suspended on Sunday, as the separatists have called for a strike on the second death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani, who was killed in an encounter in Anantnag district in 2016 which later led to massive protests during which about 120 people died in security force action.
An advisory was received on Friday night from police to suspend all train runs in the Kashmir valley for security reasons, official sources told UNI.
Therefore, no train will run on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir track.
Similarly, all train runs have been cancelled on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region, they added.
This is the first time train service has been suspended in the valley in the month of July.
We are acting on the advice of authorities since it involves the safety and security of passengers besides railway staff, the sources added.
