JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Women’s Commission (RWC) and its Chairperson Suman Sharma have demanded immediate arrest of self-styled godman Daati Maharaj in a rape case and expressed concern over the fact that he has not been taken into custody.

The RWC, which inspected Daati’s ashram in Pali, pointed out major irregularities and expressed serious reservations about the safety of hundreds of girls staying there.

The RWC submitted its findings to the District Collector and asked him to investigate the matter and submit a report.

Pali District Collector Sudhir Kumar said, “We have formed a team of education department officers and members of district child welfare committees. They will give us a report soon.”

The commission also wrote to Education Minister, Vasudev Devnani and Minister of Higher Education, Kiran Maheshwari about the wrongdoings in Daati’s Ashram.

Suman Sharma said, “The local administration is terrorized by Daati. There is no record of the girls living in the ashram, where they belong and where they are being sent. The girls were scared and traumatized. Something fishy was going on there.”

Congress chief media spokesperson, Archana Sharma said the delay in Daati’s arrest was due to his links with BJP ministers and leaders.

“When evidence of irregularities has been found in the ashram and even trafficking is being suspected there why are authorities not taking any action despite court orders?” she asserted.
