Madhya Pradesh:10 persons, including eight schoolgirls, killed in Chitrakoot road mishap

LUCKNOW: Ten persons, including eight school girls, were killed in a major road accident when their three-wheeler tempo was hit by a dumper in Chitrakoot near Allahabad on Monday. The girls were on their way back home after the school when the mishap occurred on Jhansi-Mirzapur National Highway in Chitrakoot.

Of 10 persons, eight died on spot while two succumbed to injuries in district hospital. As per the sources, the tempo carrying the girls was hit by the dumper near Sucheta Colony in Bargarh locality of Chitrakoot. All the girl students of Chandresh Inter College, Bargarh, were returning home after collecting their Class XII marksheets.

Besides the girls, the tempo driver and another commuter also died in the accident. Getting the information about the mishap, SDM and Tehsildar rushed to the spot. While local police were trying to establish the identity of the deceased and informing their kin, local people started staging protest against the dumper driver over casual driving .

Putting up a huge protest after the accident, infuriated local people created a huge traffic jam by keeping the bodies on the road demanding immediate arrest of the dumper driver. Moreover, the protestors damaged windscreen of the dumper' cabin. While the driver had fled the scene leaving the dumper on the accident site, the agitated public was about to set it afire but the district police pacified the mob and got five bodies, kept on the national highway, removed.
