CHANDIGARH: Punjab Police arrested a priest and self-styled healer from the Indira Gandhi International airport in Delhi after a woman complained he had raped her.
The alleged accused Bajinder Singh, against whom a lookout notice was issued by the state police some time back, is the pastor of a church in Jalandhar district and is popular among people of that area as a healer.
The complainant told the police that she lived in Zirakpur town, adjoining Chandigarh and that Singh had sexually exploited her and even recorded a video of the incident. All this happened in May. She alleged in her complaint that the accused used to threaten her that he would post the video on social media if she complained against him or did not agree to his demands.
Station House Officer (SHO) of Zirakpur Pawan Kumar said that Singh arrested from the IGI airport in Delhi today as he was about to board a flight for London where he was scheduled to attend a healing event on July 21.
"We had received a complaint of rape from the woman in May this year and since then the accused was on the run. We had got a lookout notice issued against him,'' he said.
Kumar said that Singh had been booked on charges of rape, cheating, outraging modesty of woman, obscenity, causing hurt, criminal intimidation, transmitting sexually explicit content of the Information Technology Act. Besides him three others have also been named in this case.
