As a petition challenging the Election Commission order for cross-examination of the petitioner is pending in High Court, the poll panel has set August 20 as the next date of hearing.

The AAP had challenged the election commission’s decision to disqualify them in the office-of-profit case on the grounds that the commission had rejected their request for cross-examination of the petitioner.

Recently, The Election Commission had rejected the request for cross-examination of the petitioner in the 20 Aam Aadmi Party MLAs’ disqualification case and fixed the final arguments on the office-of-profit charge for July 23.

The EC had said, “There is no occasion and need for cross-examination of the petitioner as he is not a witness in the present proceedings.”

The poll panel had recommended the disqualification of the 20 MLAs, who held the post of parliamentary secretaries, on January 19. The MLAs has moved Delhi High Court against the order. They had also sought cross-examination of the petitioner Prashant Patel.
