NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the NDA government is working towards ensuring that every Indian has a home by 2022, when India marks 75 years since Independence.

Interacting with beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana via NAMO App, the PM said, ''The NDA Government is giving great importance to the housing sector. We are working towards ensuring that every Indian has a home by 2022, when India marks 75 years since Independence.''

The PM said that the PMAY was not merely about brick and mortar but about a better quality of life and dreams coming true.

''Every human desires his or her own house. A person becomes much happier when he or she has a house. The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is not merely about brick and mortar. It is about a better quality of life and dreams coming true,''the PM said. The PM said that the scheme was aimed at ensuring that more women, Divyangs and people from SC, ST, OBC and Minority communities get access to housing.

''The focus is to ensure that more women, Divyang sisters and brothers and people from Scheduled castes, Scheduled tribes, OBC and Minority communities get access to housing. PMAY is linked with dignity of our citizens,'' the PM said.

He said that PMAY is creating employment opportunities for people. At the same time, he said the government was working on skill development to enable faster and better quality construction of the houses.
