ALLAHABAD: Day after students of Allahabad Central University went on a rampage following administration's order to vacate hostels by June 12 for summer break, the city police on Wednesday lodged First Information Report (FIR) against 410 students and sent 11 of them to jail.

Police said here that students were instructed to vacate the hostels till June 11 after submitting the keys to the warden.

Following that, it was decided that University administration will vacate the hostels from June 12 to 15 under specific campaign or the same.

Soon, large number of inmates, belonging to various hostels assembled at the union hall and started agitation, and after the police resorted to baton charge to disperse the mob, the protestors set police jeep and bikes on fire.

A state transport bus was also torched by the agitators, following which on Wednesday, an FIR was registered against 410 students and 11 of them were sent to jail.

After the incident additional police force was deployed in the University premises to deal with any untoward situation.

Operation wash-out was cancel after meeting with district administration and varsity administration.

University sources said that the decision of vacating the hostels was cancelled as many competitive exams were lined up and students have to appear for the exams.
