PATNA: As many as 26 out of the 30 students of the world-famous Super-30 free engineering coaching institute in Patna have cracked this year’s IIT-JEE (Advanced), the results of which were announced on Sunday.

Rapturous celebrations began at the internationally acclaimed institute founded and run by mathematics expert Anand Kumar soon after the results came out. It was for the 16th consecutive year that the institute for underprivileged and meritorious students was proving its mettle.

Like in previous years, Super-30’s successful students this year are from socioeconomically disadvantaged sections and include the wards of a factory worker from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh and a landless farmer from Giridih in Jharkhand.

“For me, cracking the IIT-JEE is a big dream accomplished. I would never have achieved this without the constant support and magical guidance of Anand Sir,” said Onirjit Goswami, the boy from Kanpur.

Suraj Kumar of Giridih, whose parents never attended any school, said his success at the tough IIT-JEE is a leap his family never imagined. “My parents never fully realise the whole scope of studying at an IIT. They only know only the best students study there. They are extremely happy about my success, which is solely because of Super-30 and Anand Sir,” he said.

“It is always true that noble thoughts, hard work and dedication always pay. I am very pleased today to see my students, who hail from very poor and disadvantaged backgrounds, coming out with flying colours yet another time, proving that they are among the nation’s best,” said Anand Kumar, who found a place in the Limca Book of World Records in 2009 for his contributions.

Since its foundation in 2002, Super-30 has sent nearly 500 students from underprivileged sections of society to the IITs. Anand Kumar’s efforts and successes have been widely documented and globally acclaimed. An upcoming film on the initiative has Bollywood actor Hritik Roshan in the role of Anand Kumar. The movie is expected to release early next year.

Super-30 selects 30 students out of a few thousand who sit for an entrance test held every year. Anand Kumar provides the 30 selected students free food and accommodation along with free coaching throughout the year.

Nine of the 30 students of a similar initiative by former Bihar DGP and physics expert Abhayanand also cleared the IIT-JEE (Advanced) this year. Abhayanand and Anand Kumar had together started Super-30, but they separated some years later due to differences.
