Kupwara encounter: Militant killed; operation over

An army official said security forces launched a search operation in the forest area of Trehgam in Kupwara following information about presence of militants there.

SRINAGAR: An unidentified militant, suspected to be a foreigner, was killed in an encounter with security forces in woods of Jammu and Kashmir's frontier district of Kupwara on Friday, official sources said.

A security force patrol party was fired upon by militants in Trehgam forest in Kupwara early morning.

Troops also retaliated and in the exchange of fire, a militant was killed.

The body has been recovered, the sources said, adding that the identity of the slain militant is being ascertained.

A defence ministry spokesman on Official Twitter Account of Chinar Corps, Army said,'' #OpTrehgam (#Kupwara district).
