LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday spoke to his Gujarat counterpart Vijay Rupani and took up the issue of violent attacks at non-Gujaratis, including those from the state by mobs apparently furious over the rape of a minor earlier this week.

Rupani assured Yogi of providing security to each citizen and denied movement of migrants back to their home states.

According to CM office sources, Yogi Adityanth was apprised by his Gujarat counterpart that there had been no incident of violence against those from UP for the last three days.

It all began on September 28, when a 14-month-old girl in the Sabarkantha district of Gujarat was allegedly raped by a man hailing from Bihar.

The accused was arrested but the incident created a rage among a section of Gujaratis, who mobilised small mobs to attack unrelated migrant workers.Adityanath urged Rupani to take strict action against those behind the attacks, said an official.

Rupani is believed to have told Yogi that he was taking all the necessary steps to protect people from other states.

More than 300 people have been arrested for the attacks on north Indians.

However, CM Yogi Adityanath said that Gujarat was a peace-loving state and had been a model of development for the entire country.

"Those who can't swallow the development were vitiating the atmosphere of the state by spreading canard and intimidating the natives of other states just to create a fear psychosis," he said.

The CM appealed to those from UP to have faith in Gujarat government and cooperate with state authorities.

Meanwhile, former UP CM and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav took to Twitter to attack the Centre and the Gujarat government, both ruled by the BJP, for attacks on North Indians.

The SP chief said: "Gujarat is once again in news, where some people are spoiling the environment of peace and spread hatred in the name of Hindi-speaking people, the BJP governments at centre and the state are responsible for it."
