Undertrial inmate dies in suspicious condition in Jhalawar jail in Rajasthan

KOTA: A 40-year-old undertrial inmate lodged in Jhalawar sub jail has died under suspicious circumstances after complaining of stomach pain, police said Sunday.

Undertrial Dulhe Singh, resident of Rampuriya village here, died Saturday evening while he was being taken to SRG hospital after complaining of severe stomach pain, they said, adding that the body was handed over to the family members Sunday after postmortem by a medical board and investigation into the matter was underway.

The deceased inmate, charged under section 16/54 of the Excise Act, was lodged in the jail since October 14, Deputy Jailor, Jhalawar sub jail, Mohan Lal said.

Singh was administered first-aid when he first complained of stomach ache on Saturday evening, Lal said.

He was being taken to the SGR hospital after his condition deteriorated, the deputy jailor said, adding that the inmate, however, died on the way.

The doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead, he further said.
