DEHRADUN: Eight died on Sunday in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand in a landslide. The incident occurred in Chandidhaar at Kedarnath route after rubble including boulders pushed two motorcycles and a car in a gorge.
Mangesh Ghildiyal, district magistrate of Rudraprayag district said, "Magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the unfortunate incident to find out as to what happened so that such incident is not repeated in future."
Total eight people were declared brought dead in a nearby government hospital including one woman.
The incident is said to have taken place at around 11 pm on Saturday night.
Deceased were identified as Ravi Kumar (24), a resident of Tehri district, Surjeet Sharma (27), a resident of Dehradun district, Uma Joshi (42) a resident of Roorkee, Haridwar district, Mohit Tyagi (21), a resident of Ghaziabad district, Jaypal (24), a resident of Sonipat district from Haryana, Viru Laal from Rudraprayag, Vishal Tyagi from Ghaziabad and Mohammad Hasan Khan from Eta district in Uttar Pradesh.
The post-mortem has been conducted and their families have been contacted said, district officials.
Local residents of Phata, Dharmesh Prasad and Dharmanand who are ex-army men helped state disaster management team along with police and medical team to identify the spot and get the victims out of the 500-meter deep gorge.
