JHARKHAND: Four Maoists, including a woman, were gunned down, while two others were arrested during an encounter with the security forces in Jharkhand’s Chaibasa. Maoists who got neutralised also include a Zonal Commander and a Sub-Zonal Commander.

According to police, the Maoists have suffered heavy losses in the encounter that started early on Monday between the security forces and the Maoist rebels in the Kolhan jungles of Chaibasa (West Singhbhum).

Chaibasa SP Ashutosh Shekhar asserted that four Maoists were killed in the encounter with the security forces.

“Out of the four Maoists killed in the encounter, one is a zonal commander, another is a sub-zonal commander, one is an area commander, and the remaining one is a woman cadre of the Maoists,” said the SP.

After the encounter, the security forces have also nabbed two Maoists; one of them is an area commander, and another is a hardcore female Maoist, he added.

The SP further added that a huge cache of arms, ammunition, and other articles of day-to-day use have also been recovered, along with the dead bodies of the Maoists from the encounter site.

Police sources claimed that the security forces had gone out on a search operation in the Guwa forest area.

The Maoists sitting in the ambush started firing indiscriminately at the security forces. The security forces fired back in retaliation, killing four Maoists on the spot, they said.

The search operation is still on to nab the Maoists, who ran away from the spot, taking advantage of the dense forests. Some other Maoists are also said to have received bullet injuries.

The Saranda forest area in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand is a hotbed of Maoist activities, where security forces are continuously conducting search operations.

On June 10, security forces also recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition in the area. Arms and ammunition, including MLGs, SLRs, pistols, and a huge number of bullets, were also recovered, along with other items.
