LUCKNOW: Uncovering a shocking murder case, Lucknow Police, on Monday, revealed that a delivery boy of an e-commerce company was murdered and his body thrown into a canal under Chinhat area.
The crime was committed on last Tuesday by two youths, who had ordered two expensive mobile phones, including an iPhone, via cash on delivery (COD) option, but had no money to pay.
When Bharat Kumar, a 30-year-old delivery boy reached them with the ordered items, they asked him to tell his company that he had lost the assignment or met with an accident, and hand over the phones to them without completing the payment formalities.
When the delivery boy refused to follow their dictates, the duo killed him by strangling him to evade payment for the phones. After the murder, they took his body in a car and dumped it into the Indira Canal.
The victim’s bike was left in another area, and about Rs 35,000 was looted from him as well. Police detained one of the accused Akash Kumar, while the hunt for the other one, Gajanand, is on.
Victim Bharat, originally hailed from Sambhai village in Jamo area of Amethi district, was living in a rented house on Satrik Road in Chinhat. A missing complaint was lodged by his brother Prem at Chinhat police station on Sep 25. “During the investigation, police used CCTV footage and surveillance and found a suspect named Akash. Upon interrogation, another suspect, Gajanand, was also identified. Akash confessed to the crime,” said a senior officer privy to the probe.
As per DCP, East Zone, Shashank Singh, efforts were on to find Gajanand and Himanshu, another accused whose hand is suspected in the crime. The police and SDRF teams are currently searching the canal for victim's body.
