SAMBALPUR:Even as the cease work by PG students continued for the fourth consecutive day, 66 new medical officers joined VIMSAR on Wednesday evening to extend health services to patients.

On Tuesday, the State Government temporarily deployed 116 medical officers, who have joined the Health and Family Welfare Department after completion of their PG course, in the wake of ongoing cease work by the PG students demanding transfer of VIMSAR Director Ashwini Pujahari.
Superintendent of VIMSAR Braja Mohan Mishra said the new doctors have been deployed in their respective departments and more doctors will join on Thursday. Tight security arrangement was made by police near the  Superintendent office before the medical officers joined, apprehending protests by the agitating students.

Representative of PG students, Satyanarayan Panigrahi said a delegation comprising seven PG students of VIMSAR and four each from SCB Medical College, Cuttack and MKCG Medical College, Berhampur will meet the Health Minister Pratap Jena at Bhubaneswar on Thursday. They will convene a general body meeting of PG students association after the meeting to decide the future course of action, he said.
Reacting to the Government’s decision to deploy temporary doctors, he said Odisha Medical Services Association (OMSA) has instructed the 116 doctors not to join duty at VIMSAR. Shankar Ramchandani, who joined VIMSAR on Wednesday, said he will abide by the State Government’s decision.
