Coimbatore, Oct 14 (PTI) Forest department officialstoday managed to revive a 50-year-old elephant, which wasfound lying unconcious in a maize farm on the outskirts.
Though the officials started providing medical care,presence of two elephants delayed the treatment.
Official sources said a herd of three elephants,including a calf, had entered the farm near Karadimadai lastnight.
The villagers noticed one female elephant lyingunconscious in the farm and two other elephants moving aroundit, the sources said.
About 25 forest department officials along witha veterinarian rushed to the spot, but could not go near theailing elephant due to the presence of the two elephants, theysaid.
Considering the situation, the department brought atamed elephant, Pari from Chadivayal and managed to scare awaythe duo to the jungles. They also burst some crackers toachieve their objective.
After diagnosing that the pachyderm was dehydrated,forest officials gave it 25 vials of glucose and antibiotics,the sources said, adding, on reviving, the elephant moved tothe nearby jungles. PTI NVMBN.
