Bengaluru, Oct 14 (PTI) The Special Investigation Team probing the killing of journalist Gauri Lankesh today releasedthe sketches of two suspects and video footage from CCTVcameras.

It has sought public help to nab the culprits.

Based on information collected from witnesses, threesketches of two suspects were prepared. They could have beenstaying near Lankesh's residence to track her movements, theSIT said.

"There are only two suspects, but we have released three photographs altogether based on accounts of two witnesses ...

We have released two photographs of one of the suspectsbecause two professional painters drew them," SIT Chief B KSingh told reporters here.

The video footage showed a man riding a motorcyclewithout a registration number apparently to conceal hisidentity.

Singh said the sketches of the suspects have beenreleased to trace them and requested people to provide information on them if they have any.

The SIT chief said the identity of any person givinginformation leading to the arrest of the accused would be keptconfidential.

The person would be "suitably rewarded" as has alreadybeen declared by the state government.

The 21-member SIT headed by Inspector General of PoliceSingh was formed a day after Lankesh was shot dead byunidentified assailants outside her house on September 5.

The SIT scrambled through footage from variousprivate and public CCTV cameras, quizzed many people andcollected details from a number of people.

The killing of Lankesh, known to be an anti-establishmentvoice with strident anti-right wing views, had led to outrageand protests by several groups over alleged "rising tolerance"and attempts to muzzle dissent with the criticism directed atthe Central government and right wing groups.

The state government has announced Rs 10 lakh reward toanyone providing information on the killing.

As a political slugfest broke out on the killing ofLankesh, her family had made a plea against giving politicalcolour to it.

The family had said investigators should look into allangles behind her killing, whether it is right wing extremistsor Naxalites, as reports had emerged about a possible Naxallink. PTI GMS BDN RA TVS ROHGVS.
