Kolkata, Oct 14 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister MamataBanerjee today recalled meeting the slain Sub-InspectorAmitabha Malik in Darjeeling and hailed the cop as a "good andcourageous officer".
Malik was killed and four other policemen were seriouslyinjured when Gorkha Janmukti Morcha supporters, owingallegiance to its chief Bimal Gurung, allegedly fired ata police team in a forest area near Darjeeling yesterday.
The chief minister expressed shock at the untimelydemise of Malik and said her government will always standbeside the bereaved family and extend all cooperation.
"I met him in Darjeeling. He was a very good andcourageous officer," she said.
State secretariat sources said that the DGP SurajitKar Purokayastha would visit Darjeeling next week. PTI AKB JMAQS.
