The agency initiated its investigation based on an FIR registered by the Economic Offence Wing of Raipur Police in Chhattisgarh in connection with the liquor scam case.

Chaitanya was produced before the court on Wednesday and has been remanded to EOW custody until 6 October.

The ED had cited Chaitanya’s alleged key involvement in laundering over Rs 1000 crore in the excise scam case.

The ED alleged that Chaitanya was involved in managing over Rs 1,000 crore of “proceeds of crime” generated through the liquor scam.

During his custodial remand, Chaitanya was interrogated and confronted with statements and documents during which he conceded at many points.

The officials implicated in the scam posted between 2019 and 2023, in the 15 districts where unaccounted liquor was sold at government liquor shops, the EOW said.
