BANGALORE: The last word has still not been about billiard sports in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. The Billiards & Snooker Federation of India has lent its might behind the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports for the retention of cue sports in the Asian Games.
“A section of media has written without clarification, verification or confirmation from us that Cue Sports will be axed from the next edition of the Asian Games. It has further gone on record that no efforts have been made by us to prevent it from happening. But this is far from truth,” said S Balasubramaniam, BSFI general secretary. “We are putting our best efforts and we should not be faulted for lack of efforts by anyone without knowing what is being done. Only the BSFI cannot act in this regard. All national federations need to ensure that the sport remains part of the Asian Games. In fact, efforts are on for its inclusion in the Olympic Games itself.”
“The Asian Confederation of Billiard Sport has taken up the cause. They had asked all national federations and national Olympic committees to provide letters of support.
“The South Korean organisers wanted at least half the Asian NOC to do so. With China backing us, these letters have been given and the Olympic Council of Asia has decided to defer a final decision on the composition of medal events to a later date in early December itself,” added Bala.
