Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is interested in buying the Kolkata franchise of the new IPL-style league promoted by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and IMG-Reliance.

“Earlier I was planning to buy stakes in Dempo and now with the new franchise-based league coming up, I will have a look at it. I will love to own a franchise,” Shah Rukh told a TV channel. “I will love to have the Kolkata football club.”

However sources within IMG-R told TNIE that no official communication had been shared with the actor or anybody else. “We have not shared a porspectus or any other document regarding the auction with Shah Rukh or anyone else. However, if he bids the highest for the franchise and complies with all our rules and regualtions, then we welcome the idea of him owning the team. He has been a team owner in IPL so he obviously knows how to run one.”

The IPL-style tournament is tentatively scheduled to be held from January 18 to March 30.
