Rubesh hits scintillating 77 as Nellai Nadar beat Sri Sivaswami Kalalaya

Riding V Rubesh’s 77, Nellai Nadar beat Sri Sivaswami Kalalaya by 68 runs in the TNCA U16 cricket tournament for C Ramaswamy Trophy.

Batting first, Nellai Nadar compiled a challenging total of 197 for seven in 30 overs. Rubesh got ample support from S Siva Balan (44) and H Mohammad Saifullah (29).

In reply, Sivaswami Kalalaya were restricted to 129 for 8 in 30 overs. S Mano Balaji took four wickets for only 23 runs.

Surya Scores Ton

S Suryakanth’s century (103 retd, 142b, 13x4) helped City gain a 38-run lead over City II in a TNCA Round Robin Under-14 match.

Though the match ended in a draw, City I won by virtue of the 1st innings lead.

BRIEF SCORES: City II 220/9 in 90 overs drew with City I 258/9 in 80.1overs (S Suryakanth 103 retd, S Akaash 28, S Srinivasan 27 no; Vidhur Kaushik 3/19, M Tushar 3/33); City IV 220 in 76.2 overs drew with City III 294/4 in 90 overs (S Kishan Kumar 107 retd, IS Akaash 40, P Kumaravel 53, Sanket Baradwaj 28 no). City III won on first innings lead.

T20 Cricket

Twenty six teams from various schools in the city will take part in the St John’s Public School (SJPS) T20 under-14 cricket tournament to be held in various grounds in the city from Thursday.

The tournament will be played on a knockout basis, and Rs 1 lakh is the total prize money.

Sanga Shines

Sanga’s 10 points helped St Joseph’s Institute of Technology beat School of Excellency in Law 41-14 in the first round of the 15th All-India inter-collegiate basketball tournament.

RESULTS: Men: Jeppiaar 42 bt Vel’s University 21; St Joseph’s Institute of Technology 41 bt School of Excellency in Law 14; Hindustan Arts & Science 54 bt Anna University 45.

Women: Chettinad 35 bt Jain College 11.
