Salgaocar confident of overcoming Lajong challenge

Upbeat after their victory over Pune FC, Salgaocar FC look determined to get the better of Shillong Lajong when the two teams meet tomorrow in the 20th round match of I-League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa.

Shillong Lajong, who have played one match more than Salgaocar, are placed 10th with 19 points from as many 19 matches. The Goan side is two points behind them and placed 11th.

Francis Fernandes, who scored a brace to stun Pune FC in their last match, is the man on whom Salgaocar will rely to spearhead their attack.

Salgaocar FC upfront looks much sharper with the inclusion of three foreigners and coach David Booth is pinning hopes on them to score goals and pull the team away from the relegation zone.

Salgaocar Technical Director Peter Valles is happy the way his team played against Pune FC after their loss against Sporting Clube de Goa.

"It's was a big win for us at a time when we are fighting to avoid the relegation. Shillong Lajong have also come with a win against United Sikkim and we are expecting a tough fight tomorrow," he said.

"But the way our team is performing after the inclusion of three foreigners, we have a good chance to win tomorrow," Valles said.
