Dinesh Karthik will lead Tamil Nadu in the K S Subbiah Pillai Trophy South Zone limited overs cricket tournament from February 14 to 21 at Goa. Other than Karthik, TN’s  leading batsmen Subramaniam Badrinath and Abhinav Mukund are also playing in the tournament.

Jeppiaar Triumph

Jeppiaar Institute of Technology bagged the inter-collegiate basektball tournament, conducted by PSN Engineering College, Tirunelveli. Jeppiaar took the PSN Trophy and  Rs 10,000 for their victory.

In the semifinal league matches, JIT beat Sumitha Engineering College, Pudukottai 85-23 and Satyabhama University 74-65. In the  final league match, JIT overcame Hindustan Arts and Science College, Chennai 52-46.

In another tournament at Vellore, JIT defeated hosts VIT 46-20 in the final to lift the Rivera Cup and Rs 12,000.

Marie Wilson, Director, Jeppiaar Institute of Technology, felicitated the winning team.

SRM Champions

SRM Univerity triumphed in the state-level men’s volleyball tournament. SRM and Customs secured the same number of points (6) but SRM clinched the title on set average to clinch the KOLT Trophy. Vignesh, Ragul & Dinakar performed well for SRM.

ICF finished third and Indian Bank fourth.

SRM posted victories over Indian Bank (25-20, 25-20, 25-20) and ICF (23-25, 25-17, 25-23,25-23). Customs inflicted SRM’s only loss, winning 25-20, 25-22, 24-26, 25-17.

Sailing Tourney

The Coast Guard Region (East) in association with Royal Madras Yacht Club, Chennai is organszing a two-day Coast Guard Sailing Cup 2013 from February 16. Addressing the press conference, Inspector General SP Sharma, Commander Coast Guard Region (East) said the event is held to commemorate the 36th anniversary of coastguard.  The sailing regatta will be held at Chennai Port (between 10 am to  5 pm).  Twelve teams with participants from Indian Navy, Army, Coast Guard and corporate world drawn from Hyderabad, Vizag and Chennai are scheduled to participate. The winning team would be presented the Coast Guard Sailing Cup 2013.

Interestingly, RMYC is also nurturing young fishermen in the sailing competition.
