Reddy, Krishnan share the lead

Chakravarthi Reddy of Andhra Pradesh and P Saravana Krishnan of Tamil Nadu were jointly leading the table with 5.5 points after the sixth round of the 13th Adyar Times FIDE Rating Open chess tournament.

A pack of six – RA Pradep Kumar, Sriram Sarja, R Bala Subramaaniam, OT Anil Kumar, R Ashwath and KV Shantaram – was on the heels of the leaders with five points each.

Chakravarthi played a masterly end game against GM elect GB Prakash of Indian Bank to score an impressive win in 31 moves. In a game involving English opening, young Chakravarthi combined his bishop and knight to trap white’s queen. In the ensuing end game Chakravarthi brilliantly overpowered the pair of bishops with his queen to pocket the point.

Vishal, Fahd in Semifinals

Unseeded Vishal Mani reached the semifinals of the Tamil Nadu 8 Ball Pool state ranking tournament by defeating P Vijayakumar of TNBSA by 7 frames to 3. Fahd of GJSR outsmarted the experienced Bhuvaneshwaran of TNBSA by 7 frames to 6 in another quarterfinal match.
