Armaan Escapes with Minor Injuries in High-Speed Crash

Armaan Ebrahim’s season opener at the Blancpain GT World Series ended on a sour note after he crashed in the second qualifying session in Nogaro, France, on Saturday.

The Chennai racer reportedly lost control of his car on the third sector of the Circuit Paul Armagnac and crashed into the concrete wall at a speed of 180kmph. Though his car was completely destroyed in the accident, Armaan is thought to have escaped serious injuries, suffering only bruises and whiplash. He will miss the race on Sunday but is expected to be fit for the second race of the calendar which will take place in Brand Hatch in England on May 18.

It had earlier been announced that Armaan was to race for Fortec Motorsport in the Silver Cup category of the Blancpain GT World Series alongside  British racer Benjamin Hetherington. Twenty cars are confirmed for the full season of the series which will feature seasoned names like Tomas Enge, Andrea Montermini, Giorgio Pantano, Nelson Piquet Jr and Alex Zanardi.

He had earlier said that he couldn’t test the car, thanks to the agreement being finalised late. “The qualifying will be my first behind the wheels of this one. But we are confident of doing well,” Armaan had said.
