COIMBATORE: Karthik Tharani held on to his lead at the top of the table by holding off Goutham Parekh and Arjun Narendran in Race 2 of the MRF Formula Ford 1600 here on Sunday.
Karthik continues to lead the Championship with 120 points, albeit by just one point from Parekh with Narendran a further 17 behind in third place. The Chennai racer had started the race from second on the grid, but jumped pole sitter Narendran on the first corner.
Earlier in Race 1, Parekh led from start to finish with 18-year-old Tejas Ram taking his first podium by finishing an impressive second ahead of Karthik.
Mohit Aryan, winner of the first race on Saturday, did a double in Formula LGB 1300 by winning Race 2. He finished fourth in the final race of the weekend as Chetan Korata drove to glory. Mumbai lad Fahad Kutty redeemed his weekend by Race 2 in the Indian Junior Touring Cars category. Fahad had won the first race on Saturday but had received a 10-place grid penalty for a technical infringement.
The race was marred by collisions before rain forced a closure after 10 of the scheduled 12 laps.
