TIRUCHY: Puducherry took the first spot in the South Zone women’s football tournament after beating Kerala 3-0 on Sunday. In a one-sided match Puducherry dominated from the start attacking Kerala territory at will. The former — along with Tamil Nadu (who were second on the table after beating Karnataka) — qualified for the national women’s football tournament to be held in Jabalpur next year.
The five-team tournament (Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Telengana, Kerala and Karnataka) that started on December 19 was being held at JJ College of Engineering and Technology Grounds.
Results (Final day): Puducherry 3-0 Kerala; Tamil Nadu 3-0 Karnataka.
