Sania Splits with Hsieh, to Partner Hing is

HYDERABAD: After just two months of partnership, Sania Mirza has decided to split with Chinese Taipei’s Hsieh Su-Wei. Sania, who is currently ranked No 5 in the world, will now pair with nine-time singles Grand Slam winner Martina Hingis of Switzerland. Hingis recently won the Australian Open mixed doubles title with India’s Leander Paes. The 34-year-old is currently ranked No 7 in the world.

Sania chose Hsieh as her partner after previous Cara Black of Zimbabwe announced her retirement. But according to the 28-year-old, the results with the Taipei player were not encouraging. “My results with Hsieh have not been extraordinary in the five tournaments we have played since January. Hsieh is not feeling comfortable while playing on the advantage court and feels she’s struggling to make the adjustment. I tried playing on the backhand side in Doha and we did reach the final but I feel I’m unable to play my best from the advantage court when we are playing against the top teams of the world. I will now be partnering Martina, who is one of the most experienced players on the circuit and is an advantage court specialist as well,” she said.
