CHENNAI:  Iran beat India 17-12 to win the men’s title at the 10-nation international rugby 7’s tournament, a pre-qualifier for the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil at JN stadium on Sunday.  Uzbekistan beat India 38-0 in the women’s final.

Deepan Bags Crown

Grandmaster Deepan Chakkravarthy with a perfect score of 9/9 emerged the champion in the lightning chess tournament, held as a part of the 67th birthday celebrations of J Jayalalithaa, at the JN multipurpose indoor stadium. Deepan received a cash award of `67,000.

St Joseph’s Champs

St Joseph’s College women’s team emerged overall champion with 51 points in the 13th edition of JETS, a multi-sport event. SSN College finished second with 16 points.
