Record-breaker Rooney Bags 'England Player of Year' Award

JOHANNESBURG: Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney has been named England Player of the Year for the second consecutive time after becoming his country's all-time leading goal scorer.

The 30-year-old, who bagged the award for the fourth time, scored 51 goals in 2015 and thereby, surpassed Bobby Charlton's record of 49 goals, Sport24 reported.

Rooney also top scored with seven goals to help England qualify for Euro 2016 with a perfect record of 10 wins.

Meanwhile, Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland has been elected for the Under-21s Player of the Year for displaying rich vein of form during this season.

The duo will be presented with the award ahead of the England's friendly against Germany in Berlin on March 26.
