MUNICH: Bayern Munich sports director Matthias Sammer is leaving the Bundesliga champion at his own request.

The club announced the move on Sunday, one day before the presentation of new coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says Sammer now has "other priorities" outside the club.

Sammer has rarely made public appearances since suffering a blood circulation problem in his brain in April.

He says in a statement that his health has been fully restored but that "at the moment" he had no desire to be available "for the club, the team and the public 24/7."

He still had two years on his contract.

Longtime Bayern spokesman Markus Hoerwick resigned three days ago.
