SYDNEY: The Australian Olympic Committee has selected the last of its 410 athletes headed to the Rio de Janeiro Games and re-affirmed its aim of a top-five finish in the medal standings.

Team chef de mission Kitty Chiller said after the men's and women's rugby sevens teams were announced on Thursday that she was confident the team sports as well as the swimmers, sailors, rowers and track cyclists can help collect the 15 or 16 gold medals likely to be needed to make the top five.

Chiller says "that's double the number of gold medals we won in London (2012). For any country to double the number of gold is a huge ask."

The Rio Olympics run from Aug 5 to 21.
