MANCHESTER: A day after Bastian Schweinsteiger was included in Manchester Uniteds English Premier League (EPL) squad for the first half of the season, the just-retired Germany international was on Saturday left out of Uniteds Europa League plans.

Schweinsteiger, 32, is the only player named in United's EPL squad who has not been included for European football.

The 2014 World Cup winner is yet to play a single minute of football for the club since Jose Mourinho took over as manager but opted to stay at Old Trafford rather than leave during the transfer window.

"Of course, my absolute dream would be to play for Manchester United and help them reach the goals they have," Schweinsteiger said earlier this week.

"Of course, we have had talks and I have no problem with Jose Mourinho. We had a good chat and he told me his side of things and I also know what I want.

"We've got to wait and see how things go in September and October, but there is respect between us and that's important for me. I'm certainly not going to stop playing football."

Schweinsteiger missed out because 21 places are available for non-"club trained" players in a Europa League squad. Man United have 22 with the former Germany international.

United are able to name only two "club trained" players -- those who have spent three years at the club between the ages of 15 and 21 -- in their A squad.

Wayne Rooney and Jesse Lingard fall into that category, which means United can only name 23 players in their A squad. First team players Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw qualify for the B list -- players born after 1994 who have been registered for a continuous period of two years.

United have been drawn in Group A alongside Fenerbahce, Feyenoord and Zorya Luhansk. They begin their campaign away at Feyenoord on Sept. 15.

A List: Bailly, Blind, Carrick, Darmian, De Gea, Depay, El-Fitouri, Fellaini, Herrera, Ibrahimovic, Johnstone, Jones, Lingard, Martial, Mata, Mkhitaryan, Pogba, Rojo, Romero, Rooney, Schneiderlin, Smalling, Valencia, Young

B List: Fosu-Mensah, Rashford, Shaw, Tuanzebe
