England top-order batsman Jonathan Trott, who missed his century by 13 runs in the third Test here, feels more sorry for his captain Alastair Cook, who missed his double hundred due to his freak dismissal on Friday. Following are the excerpts of Trott’s comments.
On Cook’s dismissal
It was a very strange, freak dismissal. It’s one of those things and would not have happened if he had put the bat down. It was disappointing to see him miss the double hundred, deep regret obviously. But that’s the way it is. He is one who doesn’t show his emotions.
On England’s massive lead
It was a good day for our team, but we don’t want to put too much of pressure having had a great day. We just want to continue doing the good work, but we are disappointed not to have put on a few more runs.
On his performance in the Kolkata Test
I played a lot better than in the last two Tests.
On batting with Cook
We take a similar approach to our batting. He has been playing magnificently over last couple of months... and may be years. We got a good rhythm together. It’s one of the things that develops over a period of time.
On Indian spinners Ojha and Ashwin
They are a good pair. They bowled well together. We saw in the first Test that they can be a handful. When the ball turns, they can be tricky. They are accurate and you got to manoeuvre against them.
On the behaviour of the Eden pitch
With the second new ball, the spinners were able to bounce it a lot more. It’s a good Test wicket with little bit of turn.
On the variable bounce
We will have to see how the wicket plays the next two days. We just have to go out and bat without thinking of any targets.
