Prolonging the uncertainty over a possible venue shift for the IPL play-offs in Chennai, the IPL Governing Council said they would consult the State government authorities before making the final call.
If the government softens its anti-Sinhalese stand and allow Lankan players to feature in the play-offs, the two play-offs, scheduled on May 21 and 21, will remain in the city. So, first they would discus the issue and the security concerns with the State government and the Police Commissioner. According to their response, the GC would make the decision.
But if the State government sticks to its stand, the matches will be moved out of Chennai, since many franchisee feel they will be disadvantaged without their recruits from Sri Lanka. The GC have short-listed Bangalore’s Chinnaswamy Stadium and Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla as the alternative venues.
