‘Don’t speculate on Sachin’s retirement’

Did Sachin Tendulkar play his last Test at Ferozeshah Kotla? Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni asked the media not to speculate on the maestro’s retirement plans. “Don’t speculate! No ifs no buts. Either you say it is or you say it is not.

In 2005 you said the same thing from the media,’’ he said amidst a huge laughter at the media conference on Sunday. The victorious skipper also spoke highly of coach Duncan Fletcher. “He has had a tough time. Let’s all admit that. But I think he is someone who knows the game really well.’’

Dhoni said Fletcher was strong in his basics. “He knows the basics of cricket, his technical knowledge – I have talked about all these things.

His technical knowledge of batting is immense. He is there helping all the youngsters who have come into the team to groom them to do well in different conditions. I’m specially happy for him because he has spent tough periods with us. He has seen some good ODI performances but this is the best we have performed under him and we can only improve from here. I am glad he is around,’’ he said.
