Growth of ICC World Cup Prize Money

CHENNAI: The spectators may not talk about it but money matters in any game, even if it may seem like the trophy matters more. Apart from just promoting the game, the growing prize money defines the progress and reach of the cricket among other sports.

The Cricket World cup is the 10 highest paid sports competition in the world. The International Cricket Council has confirmed that they will increase the winning prize by 30% this year. The 2015 World cup winning team gets to walk home with grand total prize money of $13 million comprising two semi-final losers and four quarter-final losers.

The winner gets $4 million, runner-up $1.8 million, semi-finalists $900,000 and the quarterfinalist gets $500,000.

Indian tyre manufacturer MRF in December 2014 announced its association as the global partner for the cricket world cup 2015. Other major sponsors are LG Electronics and Reliance Communications Limited.
