NEW DELHI: Indian ODI skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been named as a captain of the Pune franchise for the upcoming ninth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL).

The Sanjiv Goenka-owned side, which had earlier appointed former New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming as the head coach of the team, will be called as Rising Pune Supergiants.

Earlier, Pune's New Rising and Rajkot's Intex won the bid of the two new franchises for the next two editions of the IPL.

The process of choosing two new teams came in the wake of a two-year suspension imposed by the Supreme Court-appointed Justice R.M. Lodha committee on two IPL franchises CSK and RR after their investigation into the 2013 IPL corruption scandal.
