LONDON: Chelsea midfielder Mario Pasalic has joined Russian champions Spartak Moscow on a season-long loan after signing a new contract with the Premier League club.

Pasalic agreed the four-year contract with the Blues on Wednesday, but will continue his development away from Stamford Bridge.

The 22-year-old Croatian, who joined Chelsea in 2014, is yet to make a competitive first-team appearance for the English champions.

He did feature on Chelsea's pre-season tour of Asia last month, playing in the friendlies against Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan before making the switch to Spartak.

"Mario Pasalic has signed a new four-year deal and moved to Spartak Moscow on loan for the 2017/18 season," a statement on Chelsea's website said.
