BERLIN: Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer took a significant step towards his comeback on Thursday by resuming goalkeeper training for the first time since foot surgery.

The 31-year-old Bayern and Germany goalkeeper took part in 20-minutes worth of exercises at the Bundesliga champion's training ground in Munich having only been able to run in training on Monday.

"It felt so good to be back in training," said Neuer, who is expected to be fit for Bayern's first league game of the season on Friday August 18 against Bayer Leverkusen, said on the club's website.
