WEST BROMWICH: Manchester City equalled the best start to a Premier League season as it defeated West Bromwich Albion 3-2 on Saturday.

City has 28 points from its opening 10 games, matching its own performance under Roberto Mancini in 2011 and Chelsea's record in 2005. Both of those sides went on to win the title.

Goals from Leroy Sane, Fernandinho and Raheem Sterling were enough to secure an eighth consecutive league victory for Pep Guardiola's side.

However, City appears to be taking nothing for granted at the moment as it produced another scintillating attacking display to restore its five-point advantage over second-place Manchester United.

Sane scored his sixth goal in seven Premier League games as he smashed the ball across a helpless Ben Foster in the West Brom goal to give City the lead and trigger a run of three goals in less than five minutes.

Jay Rodriguez had West Brom level in the 13th minute as he latched onto Gareth Barry's through ball to dink over the advancing Ederson, but parity didn't last long for the home side. Fernandinho restored City's lead two minutes later when his shot deflected off Barry and into the net via the post.

Sterling came off the bench to give City breathing space as he converted Kyle Walker's cross in the 64th.

Matt Phillips pulled one back for West Brom in stoppage time but City closed out the final moments to extend its impressive start to the season.
