Our aim is to win Olympic medals: Kollu Ravindra

The Gandiva scheme will help identify sportspersons across the 13 districts and groom them for international competitions.

VIJAYAWADA: Sports Minister Kollu Ravindra and Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh Chairman Ankamma Chowdary said the multi-purpose stadium being constructed at Vidyadharapuram is a part of the Gandiva scheme, which is aimed at helping Andhrites win Olympic medals for the country.

Speaking at a press meet on Monday, they said the scheme will help identify sportspersons across the 13 districts and groom them for international competitions. In each of the 175 constituencies, sports kits will be given to players.

“We will encourage players to participate in international sports competitions. The goal is to make Andhrites win Olympic medals,” Ravindra said.“The Chief Minister wanted Visakhapatnam, Amaravati and Tirupati to be developed into sports cities,” said Chowdary.  Students excelling in sports will be provided quality education in 100 schools and sports kits under the scheme. Around 300 schools to be brought under the purview of this scheme.
