HYDERABAD: The All India Sunni Ulema Board has demanded the state government to withdraw the Qazi Act which had ‘ruined the Quzzath system’.

The demand came in the wake of recent incidents during which Qazis quarrelled with each other over performing marriages. According to the Quzzath system, Qazis are given a certain jurisdiction in which they can perform marriages. Recently, the state government introduced an Act appointing more number of Qazis. And the Qazis appointed through the Act are performing marriages in the jurisdiction of Qazis who were already working under the Quzzath system, All India Sunni Ulema Board spokesperson Moulana Syed Shah Hamed Hussain Shuttari told reporters here today.

The Board would conduct state-level Quzzath conference in December to finalise the future course of action to prevail upon the government to withdraw the Qazi Act.
