HYDERABAD: Decks have been cleared for the conduct of elections to Vemulawada and Sircilla constituencies along with 10 other segments in Telangana for which bypolls are scheduled to be held next month.

Earlier, the Election Commission did not announce the schedule for Vemulawada and Sircilla apparently because petitions were pending in the High Court. Challenging the EC decision, the TRS approached the court.

A divison bench of the High Court, comprising Justices VVS Rao and Justice Vilas Afzalpurkar, while allowing the TRS petition, asked the EC to hold elections in time to both Sircilla and Vemulawada.

Chief Electoral Officer IV Subba Rao said he had conveyed the court’s order to the Election Commission for appropriate decision. Sources said the EC might announce the schedule for these two segments on Thursday.

The TRS has welcomed the High Court order and said the party would now prepare for the poll battle. TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao’s son, Rama Rao, is seeking re-election from Sircilla.
