Cultural events to precede World Telugu Conference

The fourth World Telugu Conference to be held at Tirupati on December 27, 28 and 29 will be preceded by district-level cultural meetings, secretary in the department of culture G Balaramaiah and director od cultural affiars R Kavita Prasad have said.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday, they said similar programmes would be conducted in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Odisha, Maharastra and some other states which had sizeable population of Telugu-speaking people. Ten such places have been identified and the International Telugu Centre at Potti Sriramulu Telugu University has been entrusted with the coordination. The modalities of the same had been worked out, they said.

Those wishing to participate in the World Telugu Conference can  register by sending their names if they find it difficult to register online. ‘’In a couple of days, the amount of participation fees will be decided and forms will be made available.’’

‘’We will have the event’s theme song penned by noted poets and are also inviting entries from interested writers. The best song will be given a cash award of Rs 25,000 and other selected good songs will be given Rs 5,000 as cash prizes,’’ they said and added the songs would be sung by noted singers and used for publicity.

Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy had already released the logo and launched the website a couple of months ago. High-level committee meetings were held and discussed the souvenir to be brought out, its contents and the authors to whom the job is to be entrusted. Officials  visited the 90-acre land at Avilala village on the outskirts of Tirupati, the venue for the grand event.

The chief minister had invited President Pranab Mukherjee to be present as chief guest at the event.
